You'll find my qualifications and my point of view on psychotherapy made as simple as I can make a complicated subject. You'll also find links and information that may be of help to you, about psychotherapy and other psychotherapists in the Collingwood, Creemore and Wasaga Beach area. This web site is also directed to family doctors and other health professionals who may want to consult with me on their own patients. Under the title "Insights" you'll find examples of types of illness and the experiences that people encounter in their search for stability and mental health. These are not actual cases, but are offered as insights to doctors and caregivers as well as to patients seeking help.
I do not require a referral from your family doctor or from any mental health professional. However, a referral is preferred. If you have no family doctor you will still be able to make an appointment directly with me, when I can then make an assessment as to whether you require my services or not. Most, but not all, of my work is covered by OHIP.

OFFICE ADDRESS AND HOURS:
My office location and practice hours are:

  • 9 Elizabeth Street East, in Creemore. Monday to Thursday 8 am to 3 PM.

PHONE NUMBERS:
You can reach me at 705.466.5013 - I have voice mail so you can leave a message. My FAX is 705.466.5828

Mental Health Crisis Line and out of office telephone numbers: 705.728.5044 or 1.888.893.8333

Crises and out-of-office hours:
I am a one woman operation. Any help needed when I go away on vacation is not covered by CHIP as I currently have no association with any other physician who would be covered by OHIP. As a result I cannot provide 24/7/365 service. I certainly can provide short term crises intervention on the phone. I rely therefore on your family doctor, the emergency department and the mental health crises line if I am not available within a reasonable time frame to answer your call. I always discuss this with patients if I am away for an extended period of time and make arrangements that are clear if I am concerned about the stability of my patient.

OHIP-covered services:
Most of the work I do is covered by OHIP. This is both a blessing and a curse:
• a blessing because residents of Ontario do not need to pay me out of their pocket when they see me except for those services not covered by OHIP;
• a curse because, while your family doctor provides the majority of psychotherapy, there are very limited OHIP funded services for psychotherapy available in Simcoe County, and elsewhere in the country, and so there is a heavy demand for my services (as there are for family doctors). And so I cannot see everyone who calls me. I manage this via leaving a message on my answering machine to indicate if I am unable to see new clients.

If you can pay out of pocket for the services there are many excellent psychotherapists in the area who I can direct you to. The cost will vary anywhere from $50 to $150 per hour. Most Employee Assistance Programs will cover at least 6 sessions and some insurance companies will cover out-of-OHIP therapy. You will need to find this information.

Non-OHIP-covered services include:
1. Missed appointments and late cancellations - I currently bill $50 for any late cancellation (less than 48 hours). The fact is every now and again we all miss appointments for whatever reason. I cannot usually fill an appointment with less than 48 hours notice. If I can, Î do not charge.

2. Return to work or sick leave notes

3. Letters to insurance companies and lawyers

We are running 2 expressive arts groups starting in Jan 2007:
The first one is Tuesday 2-5 pm January 8th to February 19th, 2008 is called THE DANCE OF INTIMACY. This program uses expressive arts. Harriet Lerner's Dance of Intimacy is a required reading for participants. required reading for participants. Facilitated by myself and  Ayrlie MacEachern. This is an open group meaning you do not need to be in individual therapy.
For further information please contact Ayrlie MacEachern at 705-444-0550 or Jody at 705-466-5013.

The second group starts  starts January 3rd, 2008 and shall meet weekly on Thursday 6:30 – 9:30 pm. This group is open to men and women who are in individual therapy with myself, Ayrlie or another therapist. It is an open ended group meaning that one may remain in the group as long as one needs to in order to meet the goals each sets for one's self. This is called EPIPHANIES - a program using expressive arts to discover new possibilities and to explore different ways of being.
An over riding objective of the first 8 weeks will be to teach the group effective and practical tools to manage emotional feelings within a zone that feels comfortable for each participant.
Committment to the group process is essential and understanding this will be a part of a meeting with either myself or Ayrlie prior to the start of group and prior to signing a consent indicating a desire to participate. OHIP covers the fees for the group meetings but not for missed sessions.
